It’s one of Utah’s most popular holiday attractions and it’s very beautiful. A well-kept secret is that the Great Salt Lake has 9 islands, most of which you can explore. Some of the activities on the Great Salt Lake are kayaking, sailing, motor boating, swimming, hiking, and photography.

The Great Salt Lake Marina is located just 16 miles west of Salt Lake City where you can rent a motor boat, kayak or sailboat. Since this lake never freezes, boating is available year round. Everyone should spend at least one day on this beautiful lake taking in the views and the sunshine. Antelope Island is the largest of the 9 islands on the Great Salt Lake and it’s a state park. It’s accessible by boat or automobile via a causeway.

There’s fantastic wildlife viewing on Antelope Island with antelope, bison, coyotes, bobcat, deer, and jackrabbits. You can swim on one of its long white sandy beaches, have a picnic in solitude, do some camping, or go hiking. Carrington Island is a smaller island and was used as a gunnery range during World War II. This historic island is fun to explore with lots of gunnery remnants. The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve is another area that you’ll want to visit. It’s located on the eastern shores of the Great Salt Lake and is operated by the Nature Conservancy. This preserve hosts over 250 species of birds and water fowl as they migrate between North and South America. It has marshes and ponds and there’s a visitor’s center on the preserve. The visitor’s center has an observation tower and a boardwalk that’s a mile long for a short nature hike. This preserve is open year round. Visiting the Great Salt Lake is an experience that you won’t soon forget as the lake itself, is a one- of-a-kind natural wonder. Make sure you take along your camera.

You can also enjoy award-winning restaurants or take in a Broadway show. No matter what you choose to do while on your holiday, you will have a long list of options. There are many jazz clubs where you can grab a beer and sit and rest your feet.

This airport is about fifteen miles from downtown New York where you can take the ferry to Staten Island to see the Statue of Liberty up close. If you are taking your family with you on holiday, you will be happy to know that there are many family oriented attractions in this city. Times Square or the Rockefeller Center are both good places that everybody will enjoy.

Here you will find four unique galleries that combine the performing and visual arts. This gallery is found downtown and you will see also a artist’s studio and the classroom.  If you are in the area of Lake Jessup, then you can see the free bird and live alligator exhibits. On Sunday afternoons you can watch Hammy, a twelve foot, six-hundred and fifty pound gator who is the current resident. Friday and Saturday nights they offer free live music and a deck party.  If you would like to picnic or admire the beauty of azalea gardens, then look for the Kraft Azalea Gardens in Winter Park. This is where you can relax and take in the beauty of their walking trails and sit on a small fishing dock and listen to the birds.  Every Saturday morning from 7am to 1pm in Winter Park is the Farmers Market and is held year round. This is the best place to find homegrown and homemade specialties and organic produce.  Take home some fruit, vegetable, baked goods and plants.  Winter Park Historical museum is in the same area and should not be missed.

Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla is where you can learn all about this epic dog sled race. On the first Saturday in March, the ceremonial prelude takes place in Anchorage, and the race begins the next day in Wasilla.

Also in Anchorage, is the Alaska Native Heritage Center, where you can learn about the native people from Alaska as well as their customs and arts. You can see their homes, ancient practices and get an understanding about the importance of fishing and hunting in this region.

Last but not least is the Seal Life Center in Seward. In the wake of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, this center was created to help protect and rehabilitate the animals, as well as educate people. There are plenty of hands on exhibits and information on the ecosystem.
